Who is DigiGurl720…
I was born and raised in good ol’ Connecticut. I then moved
on to graduate from the University of Connecticut with a BA in Communications. I
was one of the lucky few to score a full-time position with the company I
interned for. I’ve been working at a marketing and communications agency for
the past five years. We’re a small, hardworking, and lively group of young,
forward-thinking individuals. To be honest, our job titles don’t properly
consider the “many hats” each of us wear. So, although my official title is
digital strategist… I also am a digital producer, data analyzer, social content
creator, online community manager, PPC and SEO expert. And there lies the beauty
of working for a small business.
So, you can see how explaining to others what I do every
day, who are not familiar with the digital marketing nuances, is a constant
challenge since my daily tasks are completely dependent on what we have going
on at the time. Do I need to launch, optimize, or pause a native ad campaign?
Do I need to generate a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual report? Do I need
to compose a digital campaign strategy? So, when someone asks me the dreaded
question— “so what do you do from day to day” I answer with “which day we
talkin’ here?” Since every day is in a state of flux.
Try being on a conference panel and polling the audience by
a raise of hands if they knew what a digital strategist is or does, and then
having only one brave soul raise their hand. Yeah…that really happened. Talking
to someone who is older than 40 is always a joy as well. “You’re a digital whaaa?
Oh! You’re the person behind all those ads that follow me all over the
Internet!” (Insert eye-rolling emoji.)
However, I have finally constructed the perfect description
of what I do (which only took me four years to develop, but hey, better late
than never right?!). Nonetheless, here it is— I help clients advertise to, and
engage with the online consumer.
To advance in my career and position myself as a thought leader
in our ever-evolving digital world, I need to stay up to date on the various latest
and greatest digital marketing trends. My job is to determine which trends are
worth investing in to include in our digital marketing campaigns, and which
ones are a one-hit wonder if you will. Here today, gone tomorrow.
So, there you have it. DigiGurl720 in a nutshell.

ReplyDeleteI learned a lot about you from this post. I think you have a good voice and flow overall. I love your one sentence explanation of what you do. You are right it is a really difficult job to describe. I think you have done a great job applying the concept of trimming the fat we read about this week into describing your job. I wonder, do you still get follow up questions to that one sentence? And do you have a similar few sentences prepared to still clarify for those who may ask?
